I thought test2.wikipedia.org would be intended to do tests before deployment to wikipedia/commons. In fact it is totally different in one aspect: it uses HTML5 (mediawiki's default since some versions) whereas Commons and WIkipedia continues to use XHTML 1.0. The errors I found in some scripts of dewp are probably no errors since it won't get switched to HTML5. Of course at some point in the future it will - but not now. not very useful to use a different config there... ;) So the "bug" is that test2 has "wikipedia" in it's name and that the info about its existence spread into the Wikimedia community. IF it is just for MediaWiki then it should be also labeled as such.

For testing by the community without affecting real wikis, that's pretty much what beta.wmflabs.org is for. The advantage that that isn't just 1 wiki but an entire reproduction of the cluster. Including the ability to test a Commons and CentralAuth. And it also has different language wikis etc. test.wikipedia.org and test2.wikipedia.org are mostly intended for use by operations as a last check before deployment to make sure it doesn't do anything bad to the real production environment (since testwiki and test2wiki are real wikis running in the real cluster with the real commons and centralauth etc.) 2 wikis so that for example 1.18 and 1.19 can be tested simultaneously. http://beta.wmflabs.org
